Building Blocks of Drama
The three main concepts students use to develop, structure and perform Drama are Elements, Techniques and Conventions. I like to call these the Building Blocks.
How do they work?
How can you use them?
The 3 Building Blocks of Drama work together to help students create and tell their story. Like in any subject they are used to help structure, explore, develop and communicate content. Below is an outline of each one.
Elements
Elements are to Who, What, Where, When, Why and How of Drama. Sound familiar? Depending on the level will depend on which Elements the students focus on or with. You will recognise that there are a few that should always be evident when planning and creating.

Conventions
Communicating through drama requires different skills and methods, these are the Drama Conventions.
Conventions are established ways of working in a drama content.
They can be placed into three groups.
-
Conventions for developing ideas
-
Conventions for structuring a drama
-
Conventions for enhancing a drama
Of course this is not set in stone. What is?
